Abstract

Business Improvement Area considered downtown revitalization which involved major aspects in economic redevelopment such as business recruitment and development, management, marketing, and social policy. Strategic planning highlighted the importance of character and individuality preservation while diversity in the downtown area was also essential. The redevelopment strategy such as Centralized Retail Management was outlined to promote both retail and residential mixes in downtown area and ensure active linkages between different parts of the city outside of downtown. Through the community survey and promotion, the continued revitalization process of core downtown areas was coordinated while public policies were implemented in the development progress.

Carole Nixon

Carole is well qualified in the subject of "Downtown Revitalization"; as she is the Executive Director for Downtown Burlington B.I.A.; President, Ontario B.I.A. Association; and Director, International Downtown Association. Some of her credentials include: a Diploma in Public Administration from Niagara College and Institute of Urban Government, Queens University; and a certificate in Human Geography and Regional Planning, Nipissing University College. Carole and her family live in a century home in downtown Burlington.
