Abstract

Communities are losing their best companies to other competing areas. Real job growth can only occur over time with the expansion of current business in the community. This is the reason business retention programs have become an important aspect in communities, they are aiming to slow down business defections and their negative impacts. The ultimate model for economic development that increases wages and new corporate investment is to make business retention and expansion a priority, then business attraction and possibly tourism can be worked on.
